PROJECT CONCEPT: A bench in the design of a rainbow, commissioned by an Elementary School, which serves as a landmark and symbol of the inclusive spirit of the playground.
Bands of brightly coloured steel in the shape of a rainbow form the back of the bench. The seat of the bench is a lake reflecting the image of the rainbow. The rainbow’s reflection is symbolic of the students being a reflection of the values of their school and the school being a reflection of the qualities of its students. Painting the bench in the colours of the rainbow gives it a child-like, whimsical quality that will draw the children's attention, invite them to play and spark their imaginations. The words that make up the School’s motto are laser cut into the back of each band of the rainbow, reinforcing the values of Leo Nickerson Elementary.
